CASTEL DEL MONTE

The serpentine road amidst the olive trees that stretch beyond vision. We know that it will appear, a tiny speck on the horizon, slowly the eight octogonal towers will come closer on their ancient hill. The castle is here, finally. The soil crunches under the steps. Traveling over the two stair cases, the Big Door, the central court — void like the sixteen chambers, that strange and familiar emptiness invading you to send you where you have always been. The sensation to be, simply to be, beyond time and form.

For some a discovery, a retrieval for others. The musicians set up. April is cold this year and we record during the night in Frederick II's room. The instruments must be warmed up — woodwinds, brass and skins. The voices, the sounds want to rise up and flow among the stones. Silence precedes the takes, concentrated, directed towards the deepest self, towards the courage to face the unexpected. To live the unique experience of a creation of which everybody possesses a secret piece which will be revealed. Not all is written. Music.

La route serpente toujours au milieu des oliviers qui s'étendent à perte de vue. Nous savons qu'il va apparaître, point minuscule à l'horizon, et se rapprocher lentement avec ses 8 tours octogonales sur sa colline séculaire. Le château est là, enfin. La terre crisse sous les pas. Travelling sur les deux escaliers, la Grande Porte la cour centrale, vide, comme les 16 chambres, de ce vide étrange et familier qui vous envahit pour vous enmener là où vous avez toujours été... Cette sensation d'être, simplement, être, au delà du temps et des formes.

Découverte pour certains, retrouvailles pour les autres. Les musiciens se préparent. Avril est froid cette année là et nous enregistrons de nuit, dans la chambre de Frédéric Il. Les instruments, bois, cuivres et peaux, ont besoin d'être réchauffés. Les voix, les sons vont s'élever, circuler entre les pierres. Le silence précède les prises, recueilli, comme pour puiser au plus profond de soi, le courage de rencontrer l'innattendu. Et par l'esprit nous nous relions aux autres et à ces pierres, pour vivre l'expérience unique d'une création dont chacun possède un morceau secret qui va être révélé. Tout n'est pas écrit. Musique.
